SECTION V - HEALTH HAZARD DATA

PRIMARY ROUTE(S) OF ENTRY: EFFECTS OF OVEREXPOSURE (EO) OR FIRST AID (FA):
INHALATION: Primary effects are those of lead - Acute: Nausea, headache, cramps, dizziness, weakness, diarrhea. Chronic: Damage to liver & kidneys, blood forming organs, reproductive systems. Remove from exposure, seek medical attention, biological monitoring and medical examinations may be required for excessively exposed persons.
INGESTION: Primary effects are those of lead, may cause vomiting, diarrhea, depression of circulation and in severe cases shock, coma, paralysis and cyanosis Seek medical attention immediately
SKIN: Primary effects are those of arsenic. Arsenic has been known to produce itching, pigmentation and cancerous changes of the skin. Glass dust may cause irritation. Wash with soap and water
EYE: Possible irritation Flush well with running water. Get medical attention if irritation persist.

SECTION VI - SPILL, LEAK & DISPOSAL

1. Spill, leak procedure: No special precaution.

2. Disposal method: Follow federal, state and local reg.

SECTION VII - SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION

  1. Local exhaust: Use local exhaust ventilation, hood or equipment to avoid dispersal of fibrous or other glass into the workspace air.
  2. Personal Protective Equipment: Respiratory - If dust or particulate are above the OSHA permissible exposure limits use a NIOSH approved respirator.
  3. Eye Protection - Industrial safety glasses that meet ANSI Z 81 standards.
  4. Protective Gloves - Recommend gloves for protection from sharp edges.
  5. Parental guidance required in handling this material. See Section VIII concerning Children.

SECTION VIII - SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS & COMMENTS

  1. Reactivity: This is stable material. Glass is inert to many chemicals but may react or not, strong alkaline solutions and with hydrofluoric and phosphoric acids, hazardous decomposition or by products: may emit metal oxide fumes when heated to high temperatures.
  2. Parental guidance is extremely important in the handling of these products.
  3. WARNING: This material’s composition contains lead and it is required as one of the elements in the achromatic kits. The achromatic kits are not recommended for juveniles. As a precaution, children and young adults should not be exposed to this material in a grinding and polishing mode during their development years even though the lead is not in a free state. Consult with you doctor about this safety issue, especially as it relates to a child’s development and health.
