SECTION III - PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL DATA

BOILING POINT: MELTING POINT: 165o F approx.-differs from lot to lot SPECIFIC GRAVITY (BULK): 1.08
VAPOR PRESSURE: PERCENT VOLATILE BY VOL.: VAPOR DENSITY:
EVAPORATION RATE: SOLUBILITY IN WATER: Insoluble SOLUBILITY IN ALCHOHOL: Insoluble
SOLUBILITY IN OTHER SOLVENTS: Aromatic Hydrocarbons-good; Aliphatic Hydrocarbons-good APPEARANCE & ODOR: Amber solid

SECTION IV - FIRE & EXPLOSION HAZARD DATA

FLASH POINT: 400o F METHOD USED: FLAMMABLE LIMITS:
EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: Use foam, dry chemical, CO2 or other similar media. Avoid solid water stream if possible.
HARARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS: Thermal decomposition may produce carbon monoxide and other unidentified organic compounds.
EXPLOSION POTENTIAL: Potential of dust explosion can exist with finely divided solids reach a right concentration.

SECTION V - HEALTH HAZARD DATA

PRIMARY ROUTE(S) OF ENTRY: EFFECTS OF OVEREXPOSURE (EO) OR FIRST AID (FA):
INHALATION: Could irritate the respiratory channels.

Avoid breathing fumes from molten rosin.

Provide ventilation to control exposure levels below air exposure limits.

Use NIOSH approved dust & fume respirators

See a doctor

INGESTION: Accidental See a doctor
SKIN: Could be a skin irritate.

Contact with molten rosin will cause thermal burns followed by solidification on, and adhered to the skin.

Wear protective gloves to minimize skin contact.

Wash with soap and water

Contact a doctor .

EYE: Could cause eye irritation and eye redness

Wear chemical safety goggles or glasses with side safety shields.

Flush eye with clean water

GENERAL FIRST AID: Burn from molten rosin on skin: Cool affected area as soon as possible in cold water. Be sure to leave rosin in place. Smother the rosin & affected area with Furacin soluble dressing. Cover affected area with protective bandage. As burn heals, rosin will loosen from the flesh & flake off. Severe burns require additional medical treatment.

SECTION VI - SPILL, LEAK & DISPOSAL

  1. Use a non-dust method to clean-up. Use a vacuum or a disposable damp cloth or rag to wipe up dust.
  2. Allow molten rosin to cool and solidify, then scrape it up.
  3. Parental guidance, supervision and participation required
  4. Disposal: Incinerate, or dispose of in a sanitary landfill licensed to receive non-hazardous industrial waste.
  5. Disposal should be in accordance with Federal, State, and Local Regulations

SECTION VII - SPECIAL PROTECTION INFORMATION

  1. Use safety glass with side shields.
  2. Use a NIOSH approved respirator if the dust and particulate level exceed the regulatory limit.
  3. Work in a well ventilated area.
  4. Do not breath vapors if melting or softening material. A cover should be over the melting pot & an exhaust hood used.
  5. Parental guidance and supervision is required if material is be heated, soften, melted and/or hot forming is being performed. Children and others could suffer major burns.
  6. Have a dry chemical fire extinguisher available in the immediate area if heating, softening or melting the material.
  7. Use a non-dust generating method to clean- up: a vacuum cleaner or disposable damp cloth or rag.

SECTION VIII - SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS & COMMENTS

  1. Parental guidance and supervision is mandatory and special attention and help is required if the material is being heated, soften, melted and/or hot formed. Children and others could suffer major burns. Keep material out of reach of children.
  2. Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practices. These practices include but are not limited to avoiding unnecessary exposure & removal of the material from eyes, skin and clothing.
  3. Avoid breathing fumes from molten rosin. Use a well ventilated area. A cover should be over melting pot & an exhaust hood used.
  4. Have a dry chemical fire extinguisher close to the area when heating rosin.
